Dinosaur Discovery Center

Project Overview

HC Dinosaur supplied 18 animatronic dinosaurs for the Dinosaur Discovery Center, an interactive educational attraction within a major London museum complex. The exhibit blends full-size moving dinosaurs with hands-on learning: visitors can trigger roars, watch a Tyrannosaurus rex skull replica rise and fall, and observe a hatching Velociraptor nest scene synchronized with narration. Units were designed to operate in dim, climate-controlled gallery spaces with whisper-quiet movements and museum-approved materials. HC Dinosaur delivered custom interactive control systems, a multilingual audio guide integration, and modular scene sets that the museum's own team can reconfigure for temporary exhibitions. All units were installed during a single off-season closure, with commissioning, staff training, and a full maintenance program included in the contract. The center's program was designed to support the national science curriculum, with pre-visit and post-visit learning packs developed jointly with the museum's education department. A rotating dinosaur-of-the-month feature, driven by the museum's own control software, encourages repeat visits from local families.

Working within a historic London building meant working around low ceilings, narrow corridors, and strict heritage-protection rules that barred any structural modification. HC Dinosaur engineered each unit to be assembled in small sections and carried through standard doorways, with internal support frames that distribute weight without anchoring into protected walls. High visitor volumes demanded industrial-grade durability and easily serviceable components, so critical drive modules were designed for rapid swap-out during operating hours. The center has welcomed over one million visitors since opening with no major downtime.
